To recognize the needs of the Tonle Sap Lake we studied the analysis of the environment and the traditions of the inhabitants. Following the guidelines committed, we start from four important themes: transportability, flexibility, removability and self-construction.
Our concept takes inspiration from the effect that is generated by an object that is thrown into the water, which create oval shapes. These oval shapes remind, at the same time, the water lilies, which are free to float inside a body of water (in our case in the Tonle Sap Lake from the dry to the wet season).
When we started to get into the feasibility of these shapes, we decided to take a little bit of distance from the oval ones and to get closer to the flexibility. Our platforms can be joined (with knotted ropes and metal elements) in infinitive configurations that can be used depending on the different needs of the inhabitants. Our floating structures are served by the Eco-platform, which give hygienic services and energy. Plus it has the function to take the water of the lake, use it to serve the plumbing of the bathrooms, and depurate the waste water over and over, recycling it. We chose to used local materials, as wood and bamboo, and recycling materials, as the pallet, which easily can be reached in the area. Plus, those materials are cheap and reusable.
The Eco-platform cleans the Tonle Sap Lake water using a grid which collect the rubbish in the lake. This grid can be easily emptied by the local people. It will help the cleanliness of the lake water, assuring healthier food and so healthier people. Finally, the Eco-platform can turn into a Research-platform. In this case the space used for the bathrooms will use for a laboratory research and the phyto-purification tank can become a floating vegetable garden, improving, one more time, healthier food.
