Francesca Ciampa and Carmela Conte, graduates in Architecture at the University of Naples Federico II, DiARC. We met at the university and during our educational experience we had the opportunity to work in team on a lot of projects. In 2017, we decided to develop together our final thesis project. After winning a sholarship together, our Master’s degree thesis was conducted through a “Research Program Abroad” at Columbia University, (GSAPP), NYC; and was researched on-site in New York City. The central theme of our research project was comprised of the redevelopment of the waterfront in the South Bronx which was savaged by Hurricane Sandy. The proposal included contemporary experimental alternatives geared towards the central redevelopment theme while also incorporating modern anti-flooding technologies and the safeguard of the coast. Its main purpose was to protect the citizens phisically and socially from the negative effects of enviromental disasters and to avoid the gentrification.
