Archistart has had the good fortune to meet many young talents who have then stood out in the working world.
After 5 years from the launch, the web platform has now more than 13,000 active users and 25,000 followers on social networks. Almost 4,000 young architects took part in the workshops and events.
For the fifth anniversary, Archistart has tracked down some of them to talk about their professional lives.

Archistart ha avuto la fortuna di intercettare negli anni numerosi giovani talenti che si sono poi contraddistinti nel mondo lavorativo.
Dopo 5 anni di attività il portale web conta più di 13000 users attivi e 25000 followers sui social. Quasi 4000 giovani architetti hanno preso parte a workshop ed eventi.
In occasione del quinquennale dalla prima attività Archistart ha rintracciato alcuni di loro che hanno raccontato qualche aneddoto sulla loro vita professionale.
Salvatore Ivo Aiello, an IAHsummer14 participant (3 cubes 1 scale, his project for IAHsummer14 workshop), is a young architect born in Naples who has decided to make his career as a professional off from Italy.
Thanking him for its time, here are some questions that will surely be useful to all young architects who are about to get into the working life.

Salvatore Ivo Aiello ha fatto parte di IAHsummer14, è un giovane architetto nato a Napoli che ha deciso di affermarsi come professionista fuori dal territorio Italiano. Ringraziandolo per essersi messo a disposizione, ecco qualche domanda che potrà essere sicuramente utile a tutti i giovani architetti che stanno per entrare nel mondo lavorativo.
You participated in the first international event of Archistart. In 2014, you were a spectator of the IAHsummer birth at Lecce seaside. It was a "Beta version" event but we hope it was still a fun and educational experience for you. What do you remember of those days in the pine forest?
It is true, I participated in one of the very first events.
Although it was a “beta version”, I immediately noticed the great professionalism of the organizers and realized the importance of such an experience. Many people joined the workshop as a group, others were already there, I left Naples alone by my car. I was curious and excited for what I expected to be one of the most unique and particular summer workshop experiences. The desire to meet new people, to deal with different cultures and different approaches that each of us has towards architecture was strong. I learned a lot, made new friends – I keep hearing from some of them after 5 years. I remember those days near the sea as full of shared projects, debates, reflections and beach volley matches.
In conclusion: a great experience that I highly recommend to those who have not done it yet!

Si è vero, ho partecipato ad uno dei primissimi eventi. Seppur si trattasse di una ” versione beta “, fin da subito ho notato grande professionalità da parte dgli organizzatori e l’importanza di una tale esperienza.
Molte persone son partite in gruppo per quest’ esperienza, altre si trovavano già sul posto, io son partito da Napoli da solo con la mia macchina. C’era curiosità ed eccitazione per quella che si prospettava una delle esperienze estive piu uniche e particolari nel suo genere.
Desiderio di conoscere nuove persone, confrontarsi con diverse culture e con l’approccio che ognuno di noi ha nei confronti dell’architettura. Ho imparato molto, conosciuto diverse persone, alcune continuo a sentirle oggi a distanza di 5 anni. Ricordo quei giorno vicino al mare intrisi di progetti condivisi, dibattiti, riflessioni e partite a beach volley. In conclusione una gran bell’esperienza, consiglio vivamente a chi non l’avesse fatto ancora di parteciparvi.
Now you work for DNA architects in Barcelona, an important and growing firm - tell us a bit about it, what is the focus of its activity? Which role do you play?
It is now 3 years that I have been working for DNA BARCELONA ARCHITECTS, an important and growing firm, recently selected by the association “GRUPO VIA” as one of the best architectural firms in Spain. The firm mainly deals with residential construction, in all sauces, from luxury villas to multi-family complexes. There is a detailed study of the context and the relationship that the building has with it. Hence the design of master plans that reflect the relationship of the built with the surrounding landscape and nature, the primary source of inspiration for many projects is very important.
In the last 6 months, we have also worked on a competition for the construction of the EL SADAR stadium, the Osasuna Club Atletico stadium which plays in the Spanish Segunda Division.
It was not easy to get involved in such a complex project, 5 Spanish firms participated, and we almost won. That second place was an experience for future projects.
In the firm, I am head of the 3D department, including design, modelling, rendering and editing videos.

Ormai sono 3 anni che lavoro per DNA BARCELONA ARCHITECTS, uno studio importante ed in crescita di recente selezionato dall’associazione “GRUPO VIA” come uno dei migliori studi di architettura in Spagna.
Lo studio si occupa principalmente di edilizia residenziale, in tutte le salse, dalla villa di lusso ai complessi plurifamilari.Non manca uno studio dettagliato del contesto e del rapporto che l’edificio ha con esso.
Da qui il disegno di masterplan che riflettono il rapporto del costruito con il paesaggio circostante e con la natura, fonte di ispirazione primaria di moltissimi progetti. Negli ultimi 6 mesi abbiamo anche lavorato ad un concorso per la realizzazione dello stadio EL SADAR, lo stadio del Club Atletico Osasuna che milita nella segunda division spagnola. Non è stato facile cimentarsi in un progetto cosi complesso, hanno partecipato 5 studi Spagnoli, e per poco non abbiamo vinto. Che il secondo posto ci serva da esperienza per i progetti futuri.
All’interno dello studio ricopro il ruolo di responsabile del dipartimento 3D, includendo progettazione, modellazione, rendering e montaggio di video.
How did you come up with the idea of starting an experience abroad? Many people ask how the situation is off from our country, do you think the role of the architect is more valued?
Undertaking an experience abroad came from the desire to go away, get to know new environments and the need to find a job. It was certainly not easy, I left for an unpaid three-month internship, without knowing anyone and no-speaking the language.
After the internship, they offered me to stay and be part of the team with an appropriate salary offer for my needs at the time. Despite the difficulties of an uprooting I lived in Barcelona as a welcoming and in some ways more livable city than my beloved Naples.
I can not generalize on the basis of my experience, but the work I do at DNA BARCELONA ARCHITECTS gratifies me and gives me the opportunity to grow and develop new skills.

Intraprendere un’esperienza fuori dall’ Italia è nata dalla volontà di voler cambiare un po aria, conoscere nuove realtà e dalla necessità di trovare un lavoro. Non è stato di certo facile, son partito per uno stage formativo non retribuito di 3 mesi, senza conoscere nessuno e senza conoscere la lingua.
Dopo lo stage mi è stato offerto di restare e far parte dell’ equipe con un’offerta di stipendio congrua alle mie esigenze del momento. Nonostante le difficoltà di uno sradicamento ho vissuto Barcellona come una città accogliente e per certi aspetti piu vivibile della mia amata Napoli. Non posso generalizzare sulla base della mia esperienza, però il lavoro che svolgo presso DNA BARCELONA ARCHITECTS mi gratifica e mi sta dando la possibiità di crescere e sviluppare nuove competenze.
If you had to give a tip to those who are leaving the university, what would it be? How much percentage of tenacity and how much talent do we need to achieve a degree of satisfaction in our work?
An advice for those who are done with the university is to learn as much as possible to have a specialization, a sectorialization, the world of architecture is too vast.
Surely a lot of tenacity, talent and a bit of luck are needed.

Un consiglio per chi sta uscendo dal mondo universitario è quello di imparare per quanto sia possibile di avere una specializzazione, una settorializzazione, il mondo dell’architettura è fin troppo vasto . Sicuramente molta tenacia, talento ed un pizzico di fortuna.
