On Lake Washington’s waters there’s the new human-scale frontier of wellness: in fact, it’s here that water and fire find their meeting point in Wa_Sauna, the platform that offers relaxation while admiring the Seattle skyline. Realized in 2014 from an idea of goCstudio studio, this floating sauna was also created thanks to the contribution of the local community which, through a crowdfunding campaign, involved volunteers and companies who made available their warehouses as construction site.

Sullo specchio del Lago Washington galleggia la nuova frontiera del benessere a misura d’uomo: infatti, è proprio qui che acqua e fuoco trovano il loro punto d’incontro in Wa_Sauna, la piattaforma che offre relax mentre si ammira lo skyline di Seattle. Nata nel 2014 da un’idea dello studio goCstudio, questa sauna galleggiante è stata realizzata anche grazie al contributo della comunità locale la quale, attraverso una campagna di crowdfunding, ha coinvolto volontari e aziende che hanno messo a disposizione i propri magazzini per la costruzione.
This small water retreat is fundamentally composed by a floating platform of 22 sqm made of a pre-fabricated aluminum frame covered with light marine plywood and supported by 28 plastic drums that allow movement, which is guaranteed by an electric motor consisting of three 12 volt batteries. The cabin, 4 meters high, is also coated on the outside with a marine plywood treated with semi-transparent dark paint.

Questo piccolo rifugio sull’acqua è composto fondamentalmente da una piattaforma galleggiante di 22 mq realizzata tramite un telaio d’alluminio pre-fabbricato rivestito da compensato marino chiaro e sostenuta da 28 tamburi in plastica che ne permettono il movimento, il quale è garantito dalla presenza di un motore elettrico composto da tre batterie da 12 Volt. La cabina, alta 4 metri, è rivestita anch’essa all’esterno da compensato marino trattato con vernice scura semitrasparente.
Accessing the cabin through a glass door, you can immediately notice a wood stove (the heat source) and the comfortable wooden seats on which you can admire the landscape, framed by the dark looms of the windows; a rectangular portion of the side wall is mobile in order to become, if necessary, a useful opening for the escape of steam generated by the sauna and, at the same time, to admire the skyline meanwhile the body starts to cool down. Externally, a white metallic ladder leads to the roof of the cabin, from which you can dive into the lake waters.

Accedendo all’interno della cabina tramite una porta vetrata, si scorge subito la stufa a legna (fonte di calore) e le comode sedute in legno sulle quali si può ammirare il paesaggio, inquadrato dai telai scuri delle finestre; una porzione rettangolare della parete laterale è mobile affinchè possa diventare, all’occorrenza, un’apertura utile alla fuoriuscita del vapore generato dalla sauna e, contemporaneamente, ammirare lo skyline mentre ci si raffredda. Esternamente, una scaletta metallica bianca conduce sulla copertura della cabina, dalla quale ci si può tuffare nelle acque del lago.
