Boundary and Ritual

WFH2020

When the home becomes the workplace, space and time slip together. We need boundaries and rituals to elevate our work form our play, our relaxation from our blood, sweat and tears. In the apartment, architectural elements reinforce our ability to respect the rituals of work and play. Through sliding door elements, the house helps maintain the daily rhythm but also to push aside boundaries and encourage people to come together.

The layout revolves around a central console that houses the stationary elements - the bed, bathroom , and kitchen. The rest of the space allows a constant flux of space and activities regulated by sliding soundproof CLT panels. Perhaps the couple need a separate, soundproof workspace for simultaneous conference calls - the panels slide to create two isolated rooms. As evening comes on, they push back the panels and host a dinner party. In the morning, the couple push back the panels and let in the light through to greet the next day.
