The contest requires the construction of a memorial to commemorate the “Baltic Way”, the event of popular protest, which took place in the then Soviet Socialist Republics of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania on Aug. 23, 1989 when approximately two million people holding hands peacefully , they formed a human chain length of about 600 km passing through Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius, the capitals of the Baltic States.
Our idea is just a chain built on two levels, the first that has the function of connecting with the next level where there is an exhibition space, a souvenir shop and a cafe.
The accommodation, masked by the chain, born with a central body which develops the staircase leading to the first level; from the first level there is another connecting staircase leading to the second level supported by steel profiles anchored directly to the ground. Confined spaces are made with the use of glass elements that form a barrel vault and are inserted into the supporting structure. These areas, when required, can shield themselves with towels lycra installed outside of the glass.
